question:
How do we develop as people? Why do some people develop faster than others?
original
As humans, we learn the bad sides of things and the good sides as well. We also hear the words, "Learn from your mistakes" a lot. Some people might think it's, in a way, a demand of some sort, but the truth is, it's more like a choice. People who make a lot of mistakes, and say to themselves for example, "Next time, I won't go home so late because then my parents will get mad". Then, the next time around, they won't do it again. But again, it's a choice, so we can choose not to learn from our mistakes and end up doing the same thing again and again. As humans, we develop naturally. Both physically, and mentally. Developing means learning, and learning we do every day of our lives. We learn consecutively as our lives pass, one day at a time. I think that each day, we develop a little more. Just a little bit. Another thing is that we develop from learning not only from ourselves, but from others surrounding us as well. The people who surround us, influence us a lot. That’s why when you see a group of friends, they are all similar in a way. If they weren’t alike, they wouldn’t cooperate well, and ultimately wouldn’t even be friends at all. We attract ourselves to people with similarities to that of ourselves, which I think is huge in developing. Now, why are some people more quicker to develop than others? I think that’s again with the “Learning from our mistakes” idea. I truly think that people who listen to their instincts and tell themselves to not repeat a mistake learn from it and move on quicker. Most of us are constantly assuming that the mistake won’t happen again. Also, people who develop quicker have a greater motivation level I believe. With high motivation, I believe that everyone can accomplish wonders and develop fast.

Another thing is that we develop from learning not only from ourselves, but from others surrounding us as well. The people who surround us heavily influence us. That is why when you see a group of friends, they are all similar in a way. If they were not alike, they would not be able to cooperate well, and ultimately would not even be friends at all. We attract ourselves to people with similarities to that of ourselves, which I think is huge in developing.
Now, why are some people more quicker to develop than others? I think that is the same again with the “Learning from our mistakes” idea. I truly think that people who listen to their instincts and tell themselves to not repeat a mistake learn and move on quicker as they have learned something from that situation. Most of us constantly assume that the same mistake would not happen again, but it could if they do not act upon their mistakes. Also, I believe people who develop quicker have a greater motivation level and with high motivation, everyone can accomplish wonders and develop fast.

Comparative essay
Meaning of exemplary can mean different to each one of us. Whether it is the perfect essay written by the smartest person in the class or an essay with interesting ideas written by an ELL student, they both can be represented as exemplary. Due to this idea, looking at other people's work, trying to look for an exemplary piece of work, it was very difficult to choose one. Since my project was the digital portfolio reflections, which ranged from ninth to twelfth grades' works, it was especially hard for me to decide on one. Out of all, I chose Michelle's work to be what I thought was an exemplary work.
It was exemplary because it straightforwardly answered the prompt and I liked the style in which wrote. She wrote in a friendly way as if she was actually talking to someone which made it easier for us to read. Also, I found her points to be relevant and relatable which I strongly believe is important in persuading someone and that she has the skill to definitely made me want to choose hers as exemplary.
To make it a little bit more formal as a writing piece, I changed all of the contractions to the full versions of the words like "it’s" to "it is", "wouldn’t" to "would not" and so on. I changed how some sentences were structured because I felt that some of them did not flow well. For example, in this sentence, "As humans, we learn the bad sides of things and the good sides as well", I rearranged the "as well" to "As humans, we learn the bad sides of things as well as the good sides." These little changes were the only ones I could make because she had no grammatical errors as far as I could detect one.
Through this project, I learned that my learning process is much like what Michelle mentioned in her reflections, "Learning from our mistakes" idea. Even though this was not a mistake, trying to improve someone's writing takes a lot of thinking as I would not want to completely change their whole idea while adding your bits of writing. Also, taking the time to re-read over and over trying to find if there any more parts of improvement, it takes patience. This can also connect to how repetition can help with retaining knowledge. Looking at other’s work, I have noticed how I will like to take into account of their different ideas, sharing a new perspective.
All in all, this Learning from Others' project made me realize how reflecting on other's work and refining them can lead to a one's success of learning. By revising, we are touched by different perspectives and are able to either relate or accept their difference. Through re-reading and analyzing other's, we are able to refine even more to make the best out of their exemplary work.
